2017 Toyota Supra
Latest info from sources close to Japanese automotive company reveals that we will have to wait for a little bit longer. Seems like long anticipated sports car will be revealed a year latter under the name 2017 Toyota Supra. This model will practically be the same as Toyota’s FT-1 Concept vehicle presented at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier on this year. When presented, even the Concept itself caused numerous reactions and rumors due to its ravishing design. However the rumors went spiral with news about Supra.
Undercarriage for the 2017 Toyota Supra will be built in cooperation with German car producer BMW. This joint venture will result with new platform for sports cars which will be used as architecture for BMW’s Z4 and Toyota’s Supra. The cooperation between these two companies began in 2011, when they signed memorandum of understanding. Based on this memorandum two companies committed themselves to several partnership projects. Beside Supra and Z4, BMW and Toyota cooperate on improvements in Hybrid technologies, as well in few others.
Exterior will mostly resemble the FT-1 Concept. Its front end will be aggressive and sporty, while the body shape will be molded in order to provide best possible aerodynamic. Headlights will include LED technology and will be swept-back. Rear end of the 2017 Toyota Supra will designed with characteristic rear spoiler.
Precise engine specs are not available at the moment. However Japanese manufacturer will, most likely include two engine versions. Both naturally aspired V6 and 4-cylindar engine will probably be available. The horsepower it will provide is estimated to be over 400 hp. The FT-1 Concept was powered by an inline-6 engine with capacity of 518 horsepower, so we don’t expect many fluctuations in this area.
Known facts, regarding Toyota’s 2017 Supra performance, are regarded to its drivetrain and engine positioning. The engine will be placed in the front end, while Supra will use rear-wheel drive as standard.
Japanese automotive company is still quiet about any details regarding the Supra sports car. The new model should have been released early on 2016, as a model for that year, but latest information indicate that 2017MY is more likely. This means that new Supra will not be released before mid-2016, at best. MSRP of the model is expected to be somewhere between its competitor’s prices, which means it will cost around $45,000.
